Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
I asked our Wizard of Wonderment what song we could possibly use to commemorate Leap Year day. Here is his response:

OK, this is a tough one ... maybe. There
is nothing I can think of which is uniquely associated with the concept of Leap
Year or Leap Day.
So, perhaps a play on the word "Leap" .... like the word "Jump". That takes us
directly to The Pointer Sisters. OK, I know it's a stretch, but the MIDI is has
a nice beat, you can dance to it .. I'd give it an 85.

- "BEACON - 17 MAY 63 - Part Two of Two":
This was a particularly newsy edition, and I was stressing over how to include it all by the scanning method I had been using. Well … I would like to offer my very belated, but very sincere thanks to the Beacon Staff for selecting a newsprint size in which each page is exactly twice the size of an 8 ½ x 11 sheet. As a result, I found it to be embarrassingly simple to scan the top and bottom of each page with a bit of overlap.
So, herein is the entire edition. Indeed, I plan to similarly scan future issues. No longer will I have to decide what the alumni get to see; now they will be able to see it all.

Hi, Carol
Anne! 
The reason you
couldn't get through to 1968 and 1969 is - those pages do not yet exist; they're
only in reserve! I'm waiting for someone to tell me their class colors before I
make them. We don't really have a very large number of people from those two
classes, and no one has volunteered that "critical" information (think Adrian
Monk...). HAHAHAHA!
Dale Lucado ('68 - of VA), Super Sleuth that he is. After that I will have

I'm
not sure that I'd want to pit the school spirit of the younger ones against the
older ones, but I do notice that somewhere in there (and I personally think the
breaking point falls between the Classes of 1967 and 1968, but that's probably
just a personal opinion), there exists a radical difference in thinking on many
subjects. In no way do I mean that in a disrespectful or derogatory sense;
neither am I trying to be provocative or inflammatory. But the world
changed radically during that time, and we - and our perceptions - changed with
it.

This is of great importance to me. If
you have the time please view and if to your liking pass on. Having Emily opened
my eyes, so much more, to the wonderful benefits of natural healing. Without it
she would not be alive today. It can likewise be said of Western practices, in
her case.
I do all things natural to the best of my ability and they often work. Some find
they work in conjunction-interactions should be checked. It is of real concern
to me that we have the right to choose for ourselves and not allow those
freedoms to be stripped. As many know autism is now 1 in every 166 children. It
is my opinion that vaccinations have increased so much that there is a
connection. Your opinion may differ and that's fine, but please at least look to
see if you'd like this freedom not taken away, as that is not the whole issue
here.
Having a child trapped in an nonfunctioning body is sometimes deeply felt and I
know it must be so much harder on her. The simple things we take for granted are
recognized and deeply appreciated when you see those who struggle to do the
simplest of things. All of us (if we are blessed to live long lives) will
function less well as we age. Vitamins, herbs, whole foods and the like better
the quality of life and often heal or lessen the effects of disease. I'm

02/28/08 - "Handbags: GROSS":
HANDBAGS...
Have you ever noticed gals who set their handbags on public toilet floors - then
go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table? Happens a lot!
It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress.
Sometimes "what you don't know 'will' hurt you"!
Read on...
Mom got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags down on
the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that
handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been.
Smart Mom!!!
It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know
what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside? Shauna
Lake put handbags to the test - for bacteria - with surprising results. You may
think twice about where you put your handbag.
Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor
of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags, but did you ever
stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day?
"I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot,"
says one woman. "On the floor of my car, and in toilets." "I put my handbag in
grocery shopping carts, on the floor of the toilet while changing a nappy," says
another woman "and of course in my home which should be clean."
We decided to find out if handbags harbor a lot of bacteria. We learned how to
test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake, and then we set out to test the
average woman's handbag.
Most women told us they didn't stop to think about what was on the bottom of
their handbag. Most said at home they usually set their handbags on top of
kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared.
Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their
handbags were at least a little bit dirty. It turns out handbags are so
surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.
Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested
were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria.
Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious
skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make
people very sick.
In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and
that's not the worst of it. "There is fecal contamination on the handbags," says
Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags,
and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier
handbags than those without, with one exception. The handbag of one single woman
who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. "Some type
of feces, or possibly vomit" says Amy.
So the moral of this story - your handbag won't kill you, but it does have the
potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat.
Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don't put it on your
desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop. Experts say you should
think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. "If you think
about putting a pair of shoes onto your countertops, that's the same thing
you're doing when you put your handbag on the countertops" - your handbag has
gone where individuals before you have sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied
bowels, etc! Do you really want to bring that home with you? The microbiologists
at Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help.

I think I never put my handbag on the table, but it's
primarily been because I do not like things on my table that are not supposed to
be there. Just as a matter of habit, I keep mine on the floor, partially
obscured by a straight chair. If I've ever thought all this through, though,
it's only been subconsciously.
