RICHMOND - Dollie Bunch, known to her friends as "Jean", 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 after a long illness.

Born in Newbern, N.C., she had been a lifelong Peninsula resident and a 1939 graduate of Newport News High School.

Jean was an assistant auditor of Citizen and Marine Bank. She retired from UVB Bank as an accounting officer in 1985. She was a charter member of North Riverside Baptist Church, where she served in the choir, was a soloist and church treasurer. She was president of Newport News Business & Professional Women's Club, as well as vice-president of the Virginia State Business & Professional Women's Club. After her retirement, she moved to Lake Gaston, N.C., where she was president of the Lake Gaston Women's Club. Jean was an active member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Michie.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, P. Ray Bunch; her son, and daughter-in-law, Reverends Richard and Victoria Bunch of Richmond; her daughter, Shirley Bunch Proctor of Smithfield; a brother, Robert Thompson and wife, Sandra of Richmond; her brother-in-law, Fred Michie III of Newport News; nephews and nieces, Fred IV and Fran Michie, Rudolph and Glenn Roberson; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Weymouth Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, at the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Stan Hicks. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to North Riverside Baptist Church, 311 Selden Road, Newport News, VA 23606.
