“You must have been warned against

Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
This music has been sitting in my files unused since 08/16/05 (which was the day after my computer was fully restored after three long months). That fact alone seems to give added meaning to it today.
BONUS #1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZaZqx9v3dU - Willie Nelson - 1997
BONUS #2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xzb5BFqTGIo - Al Green and Lyle Lovett
As I was uploading this Newsletter, I was more than a bit surprised to see that the one from two years ago today also involved a time-related theme:

From Elaine Wilkinson Bracken ('61) of VA - 03/25/08 - "Listerine and
Mosquitoes":
Worth a try....Sure
won't hurt come summer.
The best way of getting rid of
mosquitoes is Listerine, the original medicinal type. The Dollar Store-type
works, too. I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball
biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with
Listerine, and the little demons disappeared.
The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat
whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic
where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and
the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it.....
Pass it on.
------------------------------
FRIEND'S COMMENTS:
I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works in fact, it killed
them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really
doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use
as the can of spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please.
I,
for one, am certainly going to give it a try, Elaine - thanks so much!

From the Head

This is absolutely a terrific test. I was so immensely pleased with the results because this test really defined my personality and the people important in my life. Try it!!
|
This is a
unique personality test. There are only 4 questions but the results
are very interesting. I was kind of shocked by what some of my
answers meant. Be honest and honor what pops into your mind when the
questions present themselves. Just click on the following:

This is a cool test,
Evelyn! I've taken it at
different times under different circumstances, and it always seems to reflect
those changes in my life.
Thanks!

From Ron Miller ('59) of NC - 03/26/08 - "Don't Mess with Us Old Folks!!":
HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST
ANYMORE.
George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when
his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she
could see from the bedroom window.
George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were
people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked 'Is someone in your house?' and he said 'no'.
Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his
door and an officer would be along when available. George said, 'Okay,' hung up,
counted to 30, and phoned the police again.
'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing
things from my shed.
Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them.' Then
he hung up.
Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response Unit, and an ambulance
showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George: 'I thought you said that you'd shot them!'
George said, 'I thought you said there was nobody available!'
(True Story) I LOVE IT - Don't mess with old people!!
WILD GIGGLES!!! Thanks,
Ronnie!

From Norris Perry (Warwick HS - '59) of VA - 03/26/08 - "stock tip!!":
If you had purchased $1,000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock one year ago you
would have $49.00 left.
With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $1,000.00.
With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5.00 left.
But, if you had purchased $1,000.00 worth of beer, one year ago, drank all of
the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, you would
have had $214.00.
Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and
recycle.
It's called the *401-Keg*

Norris!

From Bill Hobbs ('66) of Northern VA - 03/26/08 - "LET ME KNOW IF YOU GET
THE ANSWER---I GOT IT!!":
Can you answer this riddle?
Here is a pretty neat little
thing..... See if you can guess the riddle at the end.
http://www.wvmcattle.com/lpitts.htm
Lee Pitts wrote this essay, and Paul Harvey read it on his 09/06/97 broadcast:
We tried so hard to make
things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren,
I'd like better.
I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice
cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.
I hope you learn humility by
being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.
It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.
I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.
I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.
When you want to see a movie
and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in
a town where you can do it safely.
On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.
If you want a slingshot, I
hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.
When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.
I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.
I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it.. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.
May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.
I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Hanukkah/Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.
These things I wish for
you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's
the only way to appreciate life.
Written with a pen. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.
.....
We secure our friends, not by accepting favors, but by doing them.RIDDLE:
What is greater than God, More evil than the devil, The poor have it, The rich need it, And if you eat it, you'll die?
Thanks, Bill!
I
got it; the answer is "Nothing."
Nothing is greater than God.
Nothing is more evil than the Devil.
The poor have nothing.
The rich need nothing.
And if you eat nothing, you'll die.

Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back. Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and problems that we may not even notice that we've let them fly away. Sometimes we are so caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we forget what's right and wrong. Sometimes we just don't realize what real friendship means until it is too late. I don't want to let that happen so I'm gonna tie you to my heart so I never lose you. Send it to some balloons that you think have flown away forever. You may be surprised to see it return. Send this heart to everybody you like.
Thank you so much, Charlie! You were right - I did need this!

Funny How Time Slips Away
- Willie Nelson
Well, hello there.
My, it's been a long, long time
And how am I doing?
Oh, I guess that I'm doing fine.
It's been so long now,
But it seems now that it was only yesterday.
Gee, ain't it funny, how time just slips away?
And how's your new love?
Well, I hope that he's doing fine.
But I heard you told him
That you'd love him till the end of time.
Now, that's the same thing that you told me,
And it seems like only yesterday.
Gee, ain't it funny, how time just slips away?
Well, I gotta go now,
And I guess I'll see you around,
But I don't know when, though,
'Cause I never know when I'll be back in town,
But remember, what I tell you,
That in time you're gonna pay,
And it's surprising, how time just slips away.
