From Gloria Woolard Price (Hampton HS - '65) of FL - 04/03/08 - "Elephant
Painting":
This is truly the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen.......I've never seen or heard anything about this. My mouth hung open the entire time I was watching it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He7Ge7Sogrk
BOY
HOWDY!!! The precision
alone he used was amazing!
"Can your elephant paint? Watch this
elephant, rescued from abusive treatment in Burma, now paint an amazing self
portrait. You'll be amazed at how his talent unfolds.
"So touched by their horrific backgrounds and loving personalities,
ExoticWorldGifts.com now
supports, "Starving Elephant Artisans" by selling their paintings so they
can continue to have a new life in Thailand."
Thanks so much, Gloria!

Dear Carol,
I read with dismay of your recent attempt to
register for medical care. What author John Mortimer (sarcastically)
refers to as "The Caring Community" often fails us when we need it most.
However, I do urge you to pack a lunch (and dinner) and get your buns back
there soon. Pride can be a deadly disease, too!
I know you have plenty of family and friends
who care deeply for you and are praying for your recovery. Remember,
though, that story about the drowning man. God provides lifeboats. It's
our job to climb in!
(Please note: I'm biting my cyber-tongue to
refrain from a lecture on health care in America. That's only because I'm
more concerned with your health right now. When you're feeling
better--watch out!)
In Typhoon Friendship,
Chris

Yes, ma'am!
My bishop told me almost the
exact same thing Wednesday night. As I'm not in the habit of arguing
with my bishop or ignoring his counsel, I believe I will do just that.
Thank you again, Chris!

Hey Carol, is it me or do most
of these babies LOOK like Charlie Snead?
And what's with these women drivers---aren't those MEN in the foreground
someplace giving those- very -same- directions they won't ask for but expect us
to follow? (probably that guy with the camera)
Could be me...............

Thanks, Linda May!

From Joyce Lawrence Cahoon ('65) of
VA - 04/03/08 - "SANDAL TIME AGAIN!":
Alright, ladies, it's that time of year once again!!! I think we need to be reminded of a few things. So, my sisters, PLEASE, raise your big toes and repeat after me below...
If a strap
breaks, I won't duct-tape, pin, glue or tuck it back into place hoping it will
stay put. I will get my shoe fixed or toss it.
I will not live in corn denial; rather I will lean on my good friend Dr.
Scholl's
if my feet need him.
I will resist the urge to buy jelly shoes at Payless for the low, low price of
$4.99 even if my feet are small enough to fit into the kids' sizes. This is out
of concern for my safety, and the safety of others. No one can walk properly
when standing in a pool of sweat and I would hate to take someone down with me
as I fall and break my ankle.
I will take my toe ring off toward the end of the day if my toes swell and begin
to look like Vienna sausages.
I will be brutally honest with my girlfriend/sister/coworker when she asks me if
her feet are too ugly to wear sandals. Someone has to tell her that her toes are
as long as my fingers and no sandal makes creepy feet look good.
I will promise if I wear flip flops that I will ensure that they actually flip
and flop, making the correct noise while walking and I will swear NOT to slide
or drag my feet while wearing them.
I will promise to go to my local
nail salon
at least once
per season and have a real pedicure (they are about
$15 or 20
and worth EVERY penny).
I will promise to throw away any white/off-white sandals that show signs of
wear... nothing is tackier than dirty white sandals.
Don't keep this to yourself - pass it on to other sisters.
Joyce
Cahoon
SANDALS - I remember those..... "...no sandal makes creepy feet look good."
Thanks again, Joyce!

you know, painful.....
From Jean Poole Burton ('64) of

Mmmmm - isn't it fun to recall precious memories?? Thanks so much, Jean!

I want to invite
everyone from NNHS to come to Lakeland,
Florida for the 22nd Annual "Almost World Famous" Sertoma Sock Hop on April
26, featuring Shirley Reeves, the original lead singer of THE
SHIRELLES!! It's our big fundraiser for the Central Florida Speech &
Hearing Center. My lip-synch group, the Weak Spots and our girls
group, the Put-Outs will be performing, along with a couple of other
known singers from our era.
I am the DJ spinning 45's of all the great hits from the 50's and 60's until, and after, the great showtime/entertainment lined up, wearing my old NNHS letter sweater and showing off my Typhoon blue and gold turntable setup. And I'll be buying free drinks for any Typhooners that show up!! |

Thank you to all contestants for giving us all a reason to laugh and smile.
Thank you, Wayne Honey!
This is an excellent example of
why I decided never to take driver's ed or apply for a driver's license!
Carol,
I just felt you'd like this today.
Thank you for being such a friend to so many of us.
Charlie
Give this heart to everyone you don't want to lose in '08 including me.
Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back. Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and problems that we may not even notice that we've let them fly away. Sometimes we are so caught up in who's right and who's wrong that we forget what's right and wrong. Sometimes we just don't realize what real friendship means until it is too late. I don't want to let that happen so I'm gonna tie you to my heart so I never lose you. Send it to some balloons that you think have flown away forever. You may be surprised to see it return. Send this heart to everybody you like.
Thank you so much, Charlie! You were right - I did need this!
Y'all have a good weekend - and take care of each other! TYPHOONS FOREVER! We'll Always Have Buckroe!
Love to all, Carol

April Come She Will
Words and Music by
Paul Simon
and
Art Garfunkel
(Simon
and Garfunkel.)
April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain;
May, she will stay,
Resting in my arms again
June, she'll change her tune,
In restless walks she'll prowl the night;
July, she will fly
And give no warning to her flight.
August, die she must,
The autumn winds blow chilly and cold;
September I'll remember.
A love once new has now grown old.
