Thank you, Joe.
This is one of those obituaries I kept rereading and wondering why it sounded so
familiar, yet never quite made the connection.

Raymond accepted Jesus as
his personal Lord and Savior while a teenager and he attempted to follow
the teachings of Jesus. He was a man who enjoyed sharing the Good News
with all persons, but especially he was concerned to share with the
immediate members of his family. He was a lifetime member of Providence
United Methodist Church in Dare, where he had in time served on many
different church committees. Rip loved to sing the songs from the old
hymnals and his voice could often be heard above all others of the
congregation. |

| My sincere sympathy to the Shields Family - Raymond was very special to so many people and will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. My prayers are with the family at this most difficult time. |

| What
a wonderful man was "Rip Shields", today the world is a sadder place without
him. He was a joy to all who knew him and his accomplishments were many. Now
he joins all those gone before, I bet the Mason's will have a time up in
Heaven and he will join his beautiful wife, Evelyn. Family, my thoughts are with you. Joanne Wainwright Miller |

| To
the Family, I send my condolences in your time of grief. I met Mr. Shields at Warwick Forest and he was truly a kind man. He always talked about his past and his family with me. He was one of the few that touched my heart and I will forever keep him in my thoughts and prayers as well as his family. One good thing I can say is that Mr. Shields doesn't have to hurt anymore; he's at peace. It was truly a pleasure to have met him and I can thank him for all the breaks I spent with him just talking about the "Good Days" as he would call them! Sincerely, Tungala Harrell Warwick Forest (Dietary) |

| What a legacy Rip left to this world! His family is his greatest accomplishment. They all have a bit of his generosity and love. We are blest to have known Mr. Shields, and even more blest to know his family. We are sad for their loss, but we know Raymond knew his Lord and Savior, and was looking forward to the time when he would be joined with those who went before him. Glory is the gift he has gotten for the life he lead. Alleluia! |

| My sympathy to the family. I feel the loss myself as Rip was not only a dear friend but a brother in Christ and a brother mason for the past 48 years. |

Servant of God, Well Done!
Words by
Charles Wesley (28 Dec 1707 - 29 Mar 1788)
Music by
George J. Elvey (27 Mar 1816 - 9 Dec 1893)
(The Methodist Hymnal, 1966, #288)
Wesley wrote this hymn in 1770 on
the occasion of the death of clergyman George White.
Elvey's tune, "Diademata", has been set to several other hymns, notably "Crown
Him with Many Thorns" and "Soldiers of Christ, Arise".
Servant of God, well done!
Thy glorious warfare’s past;
The battle’s fought, the race is won,
And thou art crowned at last.
With saints enthroned on high,
Thou dost thy Lord proclaim,
And still to God salvation cry,
Salvation to the Lamb!
O happy, happy soul!
In ecstasies of praise,
Long as eternal ages roll,
Thou seest Thy Savior’s face.
Redeemed from earth and pain,
Ah! when shall we ascend,
And all in Jesus’ presence reign
With our translated friend?
