This is one of my very favorite songs by one of my very favorite singers from one of my very favorite movies, Till the End of Time (1946). I had long since despaired of finding a midi file of it, when to my great delight I "accidentally" stumbled over this one last night while searching for something else entirely.

HEALTH UPDATES:

1. Pam Pennington Cherry ('58) of VA:

Carol and members of the Class of "58.

I spoke with Pam Pennington Cherry before I went on vacation, and in about eight months Pam will indeed have to have the ablation process repeated.

Since she is Head of the Decorating Committee for our soon to be here 50th Reunion and will not be able to run from one location to the other in her usual fashion decorating for us, she has asked me to find five other ladies interested in helping her decorate. She will delegate, and we will decorate ! This will take a minimum of two hours on Saturday afternoon, and those with willing hearts and able hands and legs should e-mail me at 01.sepi@gmail.com ! Thanks in advance for those willing to help ! I would appreciate immediate attention to this matter so that I may call Pam and she will have one less thing to worry about.

We all knew I think, that there was a chance that this procedure may have to be repeated before Pam even had the first one. The serious trouble resulting from the first procedure is unfortunately, not unusual ! Pam would appreciate it if you would update the Prayer list for her, and although she is strong in Faith, there are others of us out there that are just as strong. At this time her doctor said no pace maker was needed or called for. Lifting her up in prayer each day for the next eight months may result in no further action on the part of the doctors ! She thanks each and every one in The Typhoon Family for their time in remembering her in prayer !

3. Jerry Allen ('65) of VA:

Please keep Jerry in your prayers, dear people. He had his PET scan last week and the follow up visit to Dr. K today. The news was not what we had expected. Dr. K is not satisfied with the results and has scheduled Jerry for two more chemo visits. We have felt like the wind has left our sails, but we know it will return. Eventually, we will beat this enemy. We still managed to spend a happy evening with Kelly and Josh as we celebrated a special occasion----the day we brought Kelly home at 7 1/2 weeks old (5-5-77). Jerry will have the first chemo on Thursday, May 8th followed up by an injection on Friday to boost his immune system. We plan a restful weekend at home after that.

We DID have a wonderful weekend on the Outer Banks with 45 friends and family members and made more wonderful memories to enjoy for a long time.

Carol,

I was doing some file housekeeping of attachments to old e-mails, and I came across this image. Lord only knows from whom I received it, and I had forgotten all about it. I have never seen a better image of the entire expanse of Ferguson Park, despite its age. I believe that it came to me as part of a discussion of the location of the old baseball park on Virginia Avenue.

Notice that it predates Red's Pier and that Military Highway crosses the railroad tracks, but ends at Jefferson Avenue; there was no traffic circle, nor any need for one at that time. Everything east of Jefferson Avenue was woods.

Anyway, it surely deserves a place on the FP page.

A golden oldie.

GLASS OF MILK

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry.

He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water! She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it so slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?'

You don't owe me anything,' she replied. 'Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.'

He said ... 'Then I thank you from my heart.'

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Many year's later that same young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.

Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.

He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best t o save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won.

Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it a ll. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words ..

'Paid in full with one glass of milk'

Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: 'Thank You, God, that Your love has spread broad through human hearts and hands.'

There's a saying which goes something like this: Bread cast on the waters comes back to you. The good deed you do today may benefit you or someone you love at the least expected time. If you never see the deed again at least you will have made the world a better place - And, after all, isn't that what life is all about?

The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn.

Thank you, Shari! I didn't bother to run this through snopes.com, as it doesn't matter if it is apocryphal or not, or even if Dr. Howard Kelly ever existed or not. It remains a beautiful parable.

Jerry Allen ('65) of VA - began radiation for cancer last week of February; it was delayed when he was diagnosed with pneumonia on 02/20/08; update of 03/11/08: recovered from pneumonia, is in his third week of radiation, and seems to be doing well. He is back at work and comes home tired, but overall, he is in pretty good shape; update of 03/24/08: last radiation treatment was Friday; "looking good and feeling pretty good except for very irritated skin and fatigue"; update of 04/05/08: "getting better each day"; update of 04/14/08: "now dealing with a blood clot in his pic line; receiving daily injections in the abdomen and taking antibiotics and blood thinners; feels pretty good in spite of everything and his ATTITUDE is great---as usual"; update of update of 04/24/08: "no longer taking daily abdominal injections for blood clot that developed a few weeks ago; everything is looking pretty good. The PET scan will be in the next few weeks. We are expecting good results." update of 05/05/08 - "scheduled for two more chemo visits; will have the first chemo on Thursday, May 8th followed up by an injection on Friday to boost his immune system.":

2. Connie Bloxom Thompson ('66) of MD - multiple heath and financial issues; needing cataract surgery to prevent inevitable blindness ASAP; update of 03/11/08: "SO FAR, 1/2 FUNDS FOR 1 EYE PROCEDURE"; update of 03/28/08: re-hospitalized; $1475.00 received so far; still short of $2000.00 goal; update of 04/28/08 - SEE ABOVE

3. My Friend Judy of IL - shoulder replacement surgery - 04/22/08

4. Clyde Bryant ('58) of PA - heart replacement surgery - 12/13/07

5. Me ('65) of NC - recent (late January) development of congestive heart failure plus the usual financial woes; update of 03/28/08: not as well as I'd hoped to be by now; more downs than ups..... ; update of 04/18/08 - SEE: 04/18/08

6. Emily (daughter of My Niece Shari) of VA - advancing scoliosis; surgery 03/11/08; update of 03/12/08: surgery went well, running slight fever; update of 03/18/08: had some ups and lows, but is home again; update of 04/14/08 - still in pain, running a fever; update of 04/18/08 - SEE: 04/18/08; update of 05/05/08 - "finally getting better. 7. Frances Heath Scott ('62) of VA - inflammation of nerves; due to have been released from hospital on 02/27/08; update of 04/14/08 - "at home recuperating"

8. Bobby Hedrick ('58) of VA - recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer; update of 03/22/08: "doing very well, no pain, just some soreness"

9. John London (Warwick HS - '57) of VA - lumbar surgery to fix a spinal stenosis [ laminectomy]; will also involve fusion of vertebrae - 02/05/08

10. Pam Pennington Cherry ('58) of VA - congestive heart failure; cardiac ablation procedure - 02/06/08; second surgery on 02/20/08 for aneurysm; update of 03/17/08 - still experiencing difficulty with heart racing, breathing and pressure in her chest; pray that cardiac ablation procedure will not have to be repeated, and that Pam can learn to REST!; update of 05/04/08 - "in about eight months she will indeed have to have the ablation process repeated. "
