ELVIS SIGHTING #1:
From Linda Lane Lane ('64) of VA - 08/04/04:
We just returned
from a short stay in the Memphis area and went to Graceland.
I'm happy to report Elvis is still alive but had left the building while we were
there.
Take care and I'll see you in October.
Thanks, Linda! We're all
thrilled to know that! It's so comforting! I'm always
delighted to find that some things never change!
ELVIS SIGHTING #2:
From Renee Helterbran Benton ('59) of VA - 08/05/04:
I was fortunate enough to
attend the 50th Anniversary of Rock 'n Roll in Memphis last month.
Here's a photo of me with Scotty Moore & DJ Fontana (Elvis' guitarist & drummer)
at the Sun Studio private party.
WOWZERS!!! How cool is THAT?!? Thanks, Renee!
This amazing image is now posted on the "News" link:

LATEST QUEST:
In order to
locate Richard Cantor ('65), it would be most helpful
if we knew his birthday. Surely one of you remembers that little
detail! I myself even remember several of your birthdates after
more than forty years, and everybody knows that I'm practically
senile! Please rack your brains and see if you can find this tidbit
hanging around in there somewhere.
Then tell Dave Spriggs: spriggs@att.net and
me: NNHS65@nc.rr.com.
Thanks - may I remind you that this is extremely important.

UPDATES AND NOTES:
All the "Famous Military" pages have been improved and expanded, and are
awaiting more additions. In fact,
"Famous Marines" became so splendiferous, we were forced to divide it into two
pages. Also, there is now
an open invitation at the bottom of each page for veterans and their families to
be included thereon. Bless your hearts,
don't y'all make me beg you now, you heah?

Here's the latest entry for "Famous Soldiers":
From Mike Miller ('65) of NC - 08/06/04:
I was born in a
doctor's office, in Colerain, NC. The closest hospital was 15 miles away from
our farm,
and the doctor's office in Colerain was only 8 miles away. I guess I was in a
hurry!!!
Well, I guess you were, Sweetie! I had a couple of babies like that
myself. My fifth son, Nathaniel, was born four
minutes after I walked into the door of the wrong hospital ( no time to get
where I was going!). I have always appreciated fast service!

From Evelyn Fryer Fish ('58) of TX - 08/04/04:
Hi Carol - Re Birthdays - my name is Evelyn MAY Fryer Fish and I was born on May
1 -
May Day.
Thanks, Evelyn! That would help to jog one's memory!

From Elizabeth Tedder Nunnally ('68) of VA - 08/05/04:
My birthday is March 28, 1947. My maiden name is TEDDER. I went to Woodrow
Wilson Elementary and on to NNHS
with the Class of '65; got stupid and got married, quit school in Feb of 10th
grade, had a baby, got a divorce, got smart
and went back to school and graduated with the Class of '68, went on to college
and got married again. My husband
of 33 years also went to NNHS -- Harold "MILTON" Nunnally, his birthday is
10/15/47 -- yes, I'm older than he is for almost
7 months and I really hear about that! He was in the 1966 class but just
loved English and Government so much that he
came back for another year and graduated in Class of '67.
Hope this helps you find me. Let me know if you need more info.
I have been the chairperson for all of the 1968 reunions and have lots of
information on that class-- reunions, addresses,
e-mails, deaths, etc.
Thanks,
Elizabeth! And thanks for solving that mystery for me! Isn't this fun?!?

http://wwwnnhs65.00freehost.com/noland-memorial.html - Linda Lane Lane ('64) of VA sent us a memory:
Hey Carol,
I just finished reading
the
latest update and was glad to see Jimmy and Kiddy (Dickens) Starboard
('55)
on the list. I wonder if he remembers May 17, 1969? He was the
soloist at my wedding at Noland Memorial
United Methodist Church. He was one of the youth sponsors. He
actually took Betty Blandford ('65),
Betty Sue Lanier ('64) and me on a "Snipe" hunt in the middle of the
night somewhere in New Kent County.
No Snipe, but plenty of laughs and lots of insect bites. I hope he can
still sing. He was principal at Warwick High
School then, and no one in the office could believe I actually wanted him to
sing at my wedding. He was great.
He and Kiddy were church friends for many years.
Thanks,
Linda! Such fun!

If
today's Newsletter had any semblance of cohesiveness, it's a grand and glorious
thing, because I'm very definitely suffering
from "mushy brain syndrome" today. And guess, what? My 17-year old
daughter, Adrienne, and I have been invited to a birthday
party tonight! And not just ANY birthday party! No, it's a
15th Birthday Party for one of the boys in my early morning Seminary class
AND we're going ice skating at the rink on Fort Bragg! I haven't been ice
skating since Rose Woodard and I went in 1963 - and I couldn't
do ice skate then, either! HAHAHAHA!
Y'all take care.
Love to all, Carol

Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Words and Music by Roy Turk and
Lou Handman, 1926
Are You Lonesome
Tonight?
Do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry
We drifted apart?
Does
your memory stray
To a bright summer day
When I kissed you
And called you Sweetheart?
Do
the chairs in your parlor
Seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep
And picture me there?
Is
your heart filled with pain?
Shall I come back again?
Tell me dear,
Are you lonesome tonight?
I wonder
If you're lonesome tonight.
You know, someone said
That the world's a stage,
And we each must play a part.
Fate had me playing in love
With you as my sweetheart.
Act One was when we met.
I loved you at first glance.
You read your lines so cleverly
And never missed a cue.
And then came Act Two.
You seemed to change.
You acted strange,
And why, I'll never know.
Honey, you lied when
You said you loved me,
And I had no cause to doubt you.
But I'd rather go on hearing your lies
Than to go on living without you.
Now the stage is bare
And I'm standing there
With emptiness all around,
And if you won't come back to me,
Then they can bring
The curtains down.
Is
your heart filled with pain?
Shall I come back again?
Tell me dear,
Are you lonesome tonight?
