Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Today's theme
song is brought to you once again by my Magic Shower, which like me, seems to
have a particular
fondness for Cole Porter tunes.

The very naughty and equally
gorgeous Chandler Nelms accused me of being "Chicken" because of my
editing
of his message to me. Actually, I thought I was being discreet, but as you
all know of a surety by now, discretion
has never been one of my stronger points.
Okay, Chandler
Dear, I may be a "Weinius Maximus", but I'm not a chicken - not in this
sense, anyway! And so,
(WILD HYSTERICAL GIGGLES!!!), here is his original message, and
the remainder of my original reply:
From Chandler Nelms (Hampton HS - '63) - 09/28/05:
Thanks. You’re so
sweet that if you weren’t already married I’d be compelled to come to the
reunion
just to meet you. Actually, I’d really love to go (Dave Arnold - '65 - of VA
- even called me yesterday
to personally invite me), but I have SO many things going on this month that are
taking out of work and
out of town weekdays as well as weekends that my dance card is full. But please
save one for me the next
time. OK?
Chandler Nelms
Chandler Darlin',
I will most certainly save one for you next time - whenever that may be! Thanks,
Sweetie - you
made my day - possibly my whole year - with that one!
![]()
Of course, now you've upped the ante. You now owe me two
dances and two hugs! LA-LA-LA!!!
![]()
AND - I shall most definitely use that data on any future job resume! TA-DAH!!!!
From Chandler Nelms (Hampton HS - '63) - 09/28/05:
Oh, you are BAD.
REALLY bad!
OK, but we can’t tell Jo Ann (Stewart - '64 - of TX). I don’t want her to think I’m two-timing her.
Chandler Nelms
Well, of course not, Darlin'. I'm not going to tell her, are you?
Jo Ann, don't read this stuff.
There. I fixed it. Thanks, Sweetie!

From Debby Fink Golden ('65) of MA to Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 09/28/05:
Dave,
Unfortunately I'm unable to make the reunion, but I want to congratulate you,
Pam and the other committee
members for doing such a remarkable job! I know the weekend will be a huge
success - I'll look forward
to seeing photos on the website.
Debby Fink Golden
ARGHHHH!!!
No
Febby Dink?!? I'm crushed!!!

From Gloria Woolard Price (Hampton HS - '65) of FL - 09/28/05:
But I have been feeling overwhelmed much more than usual - and it
obviously shows, even from hundreds
of miles away..... I am the most transparent person I know. This
is but one more reason why I don't play poker.
OH, NOOOOO!!! You can't come either?!? But that's so sad! Well, all right. But I don't like it.

And you are special,
Gloria. We appreciate all your many contributions to the web site and the
Newsletters.
Thank you!
From Gloria Woolard Price (Hampton HS - '65) of FL - 09/22/05, but lost in space:
Okay, Gloria - I
don't know what happened, but nothing came through to me Try them again in
small
increments, and we'll see what we can do! Thanks so much!

From Sarah Puckett Kressaty ('65) of VA - 09/28/05:
Now we
know where you got your nickname, Sarah Sugah! I think maybe you've been
on the
Atkins Diet
too long; I'm beginning to notice a definite theme running through your
latest notes.....
WILD GIGGLES!!! Thanks, Miss Sarah!!! See you soon!
I added your comments - and those of Jimmy Hines ('64) of Northern VA - to the Crum's Bakery page:
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/old-stomping.html
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/OOSG-C-G.html
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/crums.html
And speaking of Crum's, I asked
Chandler where his daddy's medical office was in conjunction to it, and as
usual, I remembered it crookedly...
![]()
From Chandler Nelms (Hampton HS - '63) - 09/28/05:
Hi Darlin’,
I believe Crum's was
in the shopping center across the street from Dad……on the side of Kecoughtan
Road where the Donut Dinette was. Also, there was the Center Theater, and a
hardware or variety store
…..I think. I remember Crum’s had the best chocolate éclairs and cream horns.
Next to my dad’s and
Dr. Bunn’s office was the Southampton Drug Store. Next to that was an Italian
restaurant. Of course
over the years, businesses came and went in those two little shopping centers
that faced each other.
|
OH, MY
GLORY, DARLIN', |

![]() |
||
Dr. Bunn! I had forgotten all about Dr. Bunn!
Thanks so
much, Chandler! With as much time as I spent in your daddy's office, I
would have thought I would
have remembered that better than I obviously did. I really appreciate your
extra effort there!

From Kay Knight Midkiff ('59) of VA - 09/29/05:
Hi! Carol,
Just wanted to let you know how
much I enjoy reading your Newsletter.
I loved reading
about Seven Oaks, what memories it brought
back. I grew up with some great friends
from that area who are still some of my closest friends today.
On another note Evelyn Fryer
Fish ('58 - of TX) and her husband were in Buckroe
recently
and had a small reunion for some old friends. It was great! I had a chance to
see people I
haven't seen in years. As you always say "Typhoons forever."
I wish your class all the best on your reunion.
Stay close. luv Kay Knight Midkiff ('59) NN
Thanks, Kay! How wonderful - and how rare! I added your remarks to the Seven Oaks page:
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/apartments.html
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/seven-oaks.html
AHHH - Ev's Annual Mini-Reunion! I love
hearing about that! Whenever any of us are able to reconnect,
it gives me such a warm feeling! I hope y'all will be able to share some
pictures of that with us!
Oh, Kay - why don't you join us in October?!?
You're right there in town, and you won't even have to travel!
We'd so love to see you!

From Gus Harrell ('51) of VA - 09/28/05 - "Mr. Mac":
Oh, my goodness, yes! What was I thinking?!?
Oh, yes, I
remember. That was two days after my beloved brother-in-law died, and
three days later my computer
was hit by a worm and lost its motherboard....
This is
one of the very many things which was tabled during that three-month down
period. Thank you so much
for bringing it to my attention once again!
There he is now - right between John McCain and my friend, Luke Merano:

From Me ('65) of NC - 09/29/05:
With the
great flurry of activity lately, I'm surprised that no one has entered the "Pick
a Newsletter Theme Song"
Contest. I rather thought I'd be bombarded by favorite songs that were not
included on Dave Spriggs' Reunion
CDs or have been used on the bonus Newsletters up
to this point. What an opportunity! Just pick the song; we'll
do the rest!
I usually have
them chosen weeks in advance, and I don't even really have anything in mind for
Saturday, so you
might want to send one today....
OH - This
coming Wednesday is Rosh Hashanah. If some kind soul would care to
save me hours of research
and tell me what the most appropriate song is for that day, I'd be ever so
grateful - thanks!
Or I could just start here and keep reading and reading and reading:
http://www.everythingjewish.com/RoshH/RH_origins.htm
But then I'd still have to actually think, and you know how poorly that always goes..........

From Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 09/29/05:
No additional reservations received
this week. In the next newsletter
please give everyone another "push" to get going.
WHAT?!? Are you kidding me?!? Sigh......
Sweetie-Pies, it's going to be
wonderful, but if you're not there, it won't be as wonderful for either
one of us!
Now why would you willingly choose to deny yourself a great and glorious time?!?
"That just don't make no sense, Everett."
"See the man": http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/reunion2005-65.html
Thank you, Dave, for that shocking update.....

what on earth I'll prepare..... or why I
keep doing these strange things.........
Y'all have a good day - and take care of each other! TYPHOONS FOREVER!

Easy to Love
- Cole Porter
From the Broadway show, "Anything
Goes"
I know too well that I'm just wasting precious time
In thinking such a thing could be
That you could ever care for me
I'm sure you hate to hear
That I adore you, dear
But grant me
Just the same
I'm not entirely to blame
For love
You'd be so easy to love
So easy to idolize
All others above
So worth the yearning for
So swell to keep every home fire burning for
We'd be so grand at the game
So carefree together
That it does seem a shame
That you can't see
Your future with me
'Cause you'd be oh, so easy to love
