From Al Farber ('64) of GA -
11/01/07 - "Guns over Woman":
Ten Reasons SOME
Men Prefer Guns Over Women....

# 10 - You can trade an old 44 for a New 22..
#9 - You can keep one gun at home and have another for when you are on the
road...
#8 - If you admire a friends gun and tell him so, he will let you try it out a
few times....
#7 - Your primary gun does not mind if you keep another gun for a backup....
#6 - Your gun will stay with you even if you run out of Ammo...
#5 - A gun does not take up a lot of closet space....
#4 - Guns function normally every day of the month...
#3 - A Gun does not ask, "Do these new grips make me look Fat?"...
#2 - A Gun does not mind if you go to sleep after you use it...
#1 - YOU can BUY a SILENCER for a GUN
I
Have BOTH...
Typhoons Forever

The photo you displayed on your latest message also appeared in the October 1946 issue of the Shipyard Bulletin. The caption says it was taken on September 7, 1946. Apparently, it was a color image, for the same picture (a bit fuzzy, tho) also appears on the back of the ship's 1946 annual report.
WOWZERONI!!! Thanks
so much for the clarifications and history, Bill!

From Sepi Dinwiddie Prichard ('58)
of NC - 11/02/07 - "National Caregivers Month":
Carol and NNHS Family,
It's a good time to remind everyone that November is National Caregivers
Month. If you know of someone that is a caregiver, or a family that you just
know of, that has a member that needs constant care, just one or two hours a
week from those of you that are able will make a huge difference in the lives of
those people. Just a break to allow them to run to the store, go to the barber
or beauty shop, or just to get out of the house for a walk, will greatly improve
their mental health and outlook on life. There are also chores that need to be
done, so volunteering your time for a little yard work, or installing storm
windows, or just minor repairs that caregivers can't do, or don't have time to
do, can be of tremendous help to someone that gives around the clock care to a
loved one. I am talking to you able bodied guys here, yes you, that still do
these things in your own home. It is a nice way for a couple to spend their
spare time, as a couple. She can sit and talk, or read the newspaper, to update
the receiver on local events, while the husband drives the caregiver to the
hardware store, to pick up the necessities to make that minor repair. Remember
to register with your local caregivers organization, so that you can receive
proper instructions and also to register so that you are covered by a special
insurance rider that is available to all volunteers. Are you really so busy
that you can't find one or two hours a week ? It is just as good for you as it
is for them, you are needed. Think about it.........It's nice to be needed !
Thanks for your help,
Sepi a.k.a. Dimples
Thanks so much,
Sepi!
This
requires considerably more effort, but the rewards, of course, are much greater
as well!

From Frances Goodson Wang ('65) of MD to
Henry ('65) and
Yvonne
Peters (Hampton HS - '64) Hoyle of Northern VA - 11/02/07:
Henry and Yvonne,
Norm Covert ('61 - of MD) is my cousin four
times removed. His mother is a Goodson. She is 88, living next door to Norm
in Frederick, Maryland. She remembers my grandfather, the father of eleven
children. Norm has given me two pictures of him from his younger days. This
is such a great discovery as I am getting a divorce and to be reminded of my
own history and family stories comes at a very important time. Believe me
there are some "hum dingers" in our past.
Daddy's
name in the obit you put on the board. See, you are spreading good will even
when you have to post sad news. Thanks, Carol.
Frances,
on the very day that you sent this, I was wondering how
far apart you and Norm lived from one another, and if you'd seen each other yet!
I am so delighted to hear this news - thanks so much!

Dear Carol / Dimples,
I can't speak for other folks, but I love having Dogs and Cats around me. I know
that I am very fortunate not to have any allergies toward animals.
My favorite cake is (Pineapple Upside Down Cake) with Coffee. They all loved to celebrate my 37th Birthday for the 46th time. Good thing I was sitting down, because a person can get winded blowing out all those Candles.
End of long story, Herbie
SUPER-DE-DUPER,
Sweetie!
I'm so glad you had such a great time - you certainly deserve it!
I wish I'd been
aware of this pet theory forty-eleven years ago! Thanks, Herbie Darlin'!

From Jim Elliot ('61) of AK - 11/03/07:
Carol, just a note of thanks for the exceptional
job you're doing of keeping NNHS alive
and well.
I visit your website often. I was saddened by
the recent death of my childhood neighbor, friend, and '61 classmate,
Sharron W. Dawes. I
sent her and Richard several e-mail messages before Sharron's passing. Although
I do not know
Richard (NNHS/HHS - '62)
personally, Sharron could not have asked for or had a more devoted, loving
spouse than him.
Again, thank you for all the work you put in on behalf of NNHS alumni.
“Sent from my BlackBerry handheld”
Thank you so much, Jim; your note means a great deal to me!
![]()
I've added your note to Sharron's Memorial Newsletter:
http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/09-12-07-NNHS-Prayers-for-Sharron.html
I had the privilege
of meeting Richard on October 12 at the '62 Reunion; in fact, we sat at the same
table. He was as charming and gracious - and fun - a man as I've ever met.
I quite agree with you; his love for Sharron was obvious.

From David Whitley ('67) of VA - 11/03/07 - "to paraphrase Mother Teresa
(overheard at Starbucks)":
no ... to actually repeat her very words "fie on you
sir!, fie, fie, fie!, and may your children eat tiny, teeny little turtle
scales, sautéed in bad butter, over your stinking, rotting corpse, pausing only
momentarily to curse your memory."
no wait, maybe that wasn't her.
dang
okay, well, I'll think of who that was later & get back with you.
Oh, dear, was it something I
said?!? GIGGLES!!!
Thanks, Gorgeous!

From
My Niece, Shari, of VA -
11/03/07 - "How would you be remembered?":
| Kind of
creepy yet motivating to be our better selves.
This IS a very sobering
thought, Shari - THANKS!
