Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Happy 229th Birthday today to the United States Marine Corps!

On a more personal note, Happy Birthday today to Angie Ray Smith ('64) of VA and Steve Pullen ('65) of VA!

PAGE UPDATES:
Of the 77
photographs (taken with the tabletop disposable cameras) which Dave Spriggs
('64) of VA sent me on Saturday,
I have chosen 50 and posted them, although they are not yet labeled very well.
I thought perhaps you'd like to see them while
I'm still in the process of tweaking them:

Thanks for the background story, Cousin Henry!
It's always best to have as much knowledge as possible on safety issues.
While the medical experts and the plastic industry continue to ponder and debate
what it plastic may or may not do when
subjected to microwaves, I personally think I'll simply use tempered glass.
(By the way, Cousin Henry really is my blood relative. I come from a long line of NC Hoyles - as does he - obviously!)
Hi,
Carol:
Eric Huffstutler (BHS-'75) sure came through to dress up the Famous
Soldiers page with the military photo
of James Arness (US Marshal Matt Dillon) AKA: James King Aurness, since you
insist upon the strict enforcement
of "Carol's Rules" regarding photos of
Famous Soldiers.
Thanks, Joe - just see what happened next!
And yes, I "fixed" my
computer with a simple rebooting, and yes, it was indeed my "rampiring" which
caused the problem,
and yes, I knew that all along, but I didn't wanna do it. In the rebooting
process I lost something that was very precious to me,
and yes, I knew that was gonna happen, too, but there was nothing I could do
about it but cry - so I did.
But keep reminding me, Adonis; I may just repent of my rampiring ways yet! I only have NINE programs running at the moment!
From Eric Huffstutler (BHS - '75) of VA - 11/08/04:
"A few more"???
WOWZERS, Eric - you 'bout finished off the entire list! How'd you
DO that?!? No, wait - don't tell me -
I prefer to believe in magic. Thanks so much!
Also from Eric Huffstutler (BHS - '75) of VA - 11/08/04:
DOUBLE
WOWZERS, Eric! You did it again! This list wasn't nearly so
long, so I published it here. I spent about 90 minutes
looking for more information about Sammy Nestico, and became supremely
flusterstrated (I like that un-word) in the attempt. I
really appreciate your tracking all that data down for me, Eric - even if it did
take me a "moment" or two to post it....
From Pam Smith Arnold ('65) of VA - 11/09/04:
Carol,
Great News!
Pauline Collins Shofner ('65) and Charles Shofner of VA
(whom we have adopted!) have a new grandchild...
born today at 8:23 a.m. Arielle Rosalie Hartzell came to us at 6 pounds
11 1/2 ounces and 20 inches. Her mom,
Temple Hartzell, and dad, John Hartzell, are doing well and can't
stop smiling. (I remember that feeling with great
fondness!) Anyone who has seen her knows - but for those of you that don't -
Temple is Pauline's daughter.
Love,
Cousin Pam
WOWZERONI! A new baby! How super-wonderful!
That is just about the neatest thing on the earth! CongratulationsFrom Marsha Rice ('62) of VA - 11/09/04:

someone "pulls on the rope"---please take a minute and do it!!!
Ohhhh, and it's so CUTE, too! (I was in sore need of some cuteness
today.) Thanks, Marsha! This is a fun way to do
something really important.
Semper Fidelis! You
may question my right to say that. If creating this web page was audacious -
and it was - then invoking
the motto of the Marine Corps is off the scale. I do so only on the
authority of one of "my" Famous Marines, Al Loreth of CO,
described by those who knew him as "a Marine's Marine". He paid me one of
the grandest compliments of my life by making
me an Honorary Marine. WOWZERONI! Thanks again, Al - so very
much!
And remember, remember - tomorrow is Veteran's Day! Be sure to express your gratitude to all the veterans you encounter.
Y'all take care of each other.
Love to all, Carol

The United States Marine Corps Hymn
Words: L. Z.
Phillips (?) (1919)
Music: Jacques Offenbach from Genevieve de Brabant (1868)
From the Halls of Montezuma To the Shores of Tripoli; We fight our country's battles In the air, on land and sea; First to fight for right and freedom And to keep our honor clean; We are proud to claim the title of United States Marine. Our flag's unfurled to every breeze From dawn to setting sun; We have fought in ev'ry clime and place Where we could take a gun; In the snow of far-off Northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes; You will find us always on the job-- The United States Marines. Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve; If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes; They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.
