Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
A big
Thank You
to all you Veterans out there! Now, you just knew there'd be homework today, didn't you? We covered it pretty well last year, so take another look: http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/11-11-05-NNHS-Veterans-Day.html |

From Me ('65) of NC - 11/11/06:
| Can you
really listen to the strains of Sousa' "Washington Post" and not stand a
little taller and a little straighter, and feel an enormous rush of pride in
everything American as a tear-streaked smile spreads across your face?
No, I didn't think so! As I was searching for a midi arrangement of this that I liked (and while this one is a bit short of the trumpets I wanted to hear, the dynamics, the percussion, and the tubas are great!), I cane across this site I thought many of you would enjoy - especially (but not limited to) you baseball fans: |

BIRTHDAYS:
Congratulations, Jean, and Many Happy Returns!

Dear Carol,
I know you've been hesitant about fixing a
subscription fee for the
Newsletter. I do agree with you that it should be available to all
Typhoons and friends regardless of income. I would, however, like to
challenge those who can, to commit to a monthly fee (whatever they can
afford) so you can count on meeting your expenses. (With maybe a little
somethin' for your own sweet self?) You have my monthly commitment of
$10. I can't think of a happier use for this money!
Typhoons Forever!
And, because of you, We'll Always Have
Buckroe...

OH, MY GOODNESS! I remember that quite vividly, of course, because I was only in the eighth grade when we moved there (from 1309-A 16th Street to 1353 Roanoke Avenue) in October of 1960 after my daddy's death six months earlier, but you were a senior! I had no idea you'd remember!!! I was always completely floored that you'd smile and speak to me as you passed by! WOWZERS!!! You made my whole day! I'm always surprised that anyone remembered me at all.... Thanks, |

I
know!!! Wasn't that only yesterday?!? |

Actually, the one I remember most vividly was the 225th in 2000.
That's because as the Class of 1965 was having it's 35-Year Reunion, the
Marines were having their Birthday Ball right across the hall! http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/SITE-MAP.html http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/reunion-page.html |

From Me ('65) of NC - 11/11/06:
| I chanced
upon something very interesting this morning. I Googled "WGH",
and found this article in Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WGH When I saw
the External Links, I correctly assumed I'd find Dale Parson's ('69 - of
HA) most excellent WGH site, was was amazed to find
http://www.alohanews.com/wgh.htm http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/wgh.html So then I took a chance to see if Wikipedia carried an article on Newport News High School.. They do, but it doesn't mention our page. C'est la vie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_News_High_School It concluded with these words:
Soooo - y'all go for it! Anyway, I added the Wikipedia links to both these pages on our site: http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/SITE-MAP.html http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/wgh.html http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/SITE-MAP.html http://www.nnhs65.00freehost.com/old-stomping.html |

the USMC"
|
Hi, Carol:
Thanks for the special "Salute" to the USMC
in the
Newsletter. Hope everyone caught the speech by Jim
Lehrer yesterday at the dedication ceremony of the National
Museum of the Marine Corps.
Just in case they missed it, Jim gave a rousing speech
at Quantico. During this speech, he remembered his Marine father, and
relatives who have served in the Corps.
Then he recalled reporting to Quantico for Platoon
Leaders Class as a young college student. During the initial roll call at
the train station where the students had just arrived for training, the
Drill Instructor pronounced his last name incorrectly. Jim spoke up to
give the correct way to pronounce his last name.
Then total silence settled, as he heard the leather
heels pounding on the concrete towards him, and he was told his name was
now "Bo Peep, Little Bo Peep" and he never forgot it.
What a great story!
Thanks for sharing that, Joe! Alas, I missed it.
I've spent the weekend observing Veterans Day in my usual fashion -
watching old war movies on TV, and remembering.
As for sponsorship for the website, I liked the idea
you had about raising funds the way PBS does for certain programs. Of
course, none of us would want our names shown as an underwriter. I am sure
you will come up with a plan for several good suggestions have been
provided by your subscribers. Certainly, none of us would like to see
this website cease to exist.
The storm will pass, and you should not be embarrassed
at all about the situation that you and Paul and your dear family find
yourself in at this time. I dare say there are few who have not lost a job
due to mergers, acquisitions, and sellout of businesses in their business
careers. So, we understand and hope you will not be embarrassed if one
were to give of their abundance to one in need during a storm in their
life.
Have a reflective Veterans Day, as you ponder the duty
performed by
your
father in the Army.
TYPHOON Regards,
Joe Madagan ('57) of FL
Thank you,
sweet Adonis!
Thank you so very much -
for everything! |

From Dave Spriggs ('64) of VA to the Class of 1964 - 10/15/06 - "NNHS 60TH
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION":
|
Fellow Classmates.
I wanted to thank all of you for attending our
Birthday Celebration. I hope that you had a memorable evening.
I also hope that you took lots of candid photos of
your classmates, of Ms. Kanter ... and of
"THE KING".
I know that those who could not attend (and other
NNHS classes) would love to see all of your
photos. The best way to make that happen is to let Carol Buckley Harty
('65 - of NC) place them on the NNHS Web Page.
And, the best way to do that is to send them all to me, so that I can
archive them to my hard drive before sending them along to Carol.
You can attach them to e-mails, if you wish, but I
can handle any media.
For e-mails, send them to:
nnhs64@cox.net
For "snail mail" send them to: NNHS CLASS OF
1964, P.O. BOX 6387, Norfolk VA 23508-0387
It was great seeing all of you.
TYPHOONS FOREVER,
Dave Spriggs
