12/07/04 - NNHS Newsletter - Happy Hanukkah! |
|
Dear Friends and Schoolmates,
Yes, yes,
I know that we don't all celebrate Hanukkah. But
many of us do, so we might as
well cover the history of it for educational
purposes
anyway, n'est pas?

Pearl Harbor Day:
Today, of course, is also the
63rd Anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and while we don't want
to celebrate that, we
certainly don't want to forget it, either.
"Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which
will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly
and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."

UPDATES:
There
SHOULD have been several sets of updates here, as I've had input from all sorts
of people, but, um, I have two sets
of company coming this week, and um, well, uh, I didn't make any updates ......
I'm sure that I will soon, though!
PAGE HITS:
Hit # 28,500 was made on Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at 7:10 PM by Tom Norris (HHS
- '73) of VA.
Thanks, Babe!
From Fred Field ('45) of CA - 12/06/04:
I have written several
articles on the history of NNHS. Would you like
to look them over for possible inclusion in your web site?
Yes sir, I would very much like to see them! Thank you for thinking of us!
From Suzanne VanNoy Mink ('64) of OH - 12/07/04:
Hey Carol,
It was wonderful meeting you and seeing everyone at
the Reunion. What a great time.
Everyone involved in the planning
did a spectacular job - THANKS!!!!!
I just wanted to thank everyone for their prayers for my
brother, Jim VanNoy ('58 of VA). He's at home now and doing
great - PRAISE GOD. And it could only have been GOD for Jim to have survived all
he went through. For those of you who
are non-medical, to be on bypass for 6 hours and come off alive is a miracle,
but to survive and have all your mental faculties
intact is nothing short of incredibly miraculous. I think there were so many
people praying for Jim, GOD just blessed Jim
to get us off His back.
To all of you in Typhoon Land (and we all live there,
right?) I want to wish each and every one of you a truly blessed and
joyous holiday.
And isn't the picture just great?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone looks so good for our age. ;-}
Love to all,
Suzanne
What fabulous news! Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Suzanne! We're all delighted to hear of Jimmy's progress!
And yes, that reunion was super spectacular! Those are memories we'll cherish for the rest of our lives.

What a wonderful teacher. Miss Winstead was my first teacher in public school 50
some years ago at Magruder in Newport News, VA. I have never
forgotten her and will always be grateful for her "strict" direction and help in
becoming a successful professional-she taught me the basics which carried
me through high school, college and in to the real world. She was the Teacher
that everyone should have.
Jo Ann Stewart (San Antonio, TX ) - December 3, 2004
Oh, my!
Miss Winstead was also my second grade teacher the following year. I
actually remember her more clearly from church,
as we were both members of Trinity Methodist.
I'm sorry to learn of her passing. Thank you for sharing this with us, Jo
Ann.
From Dave Arnold ('65) of VA - 12/07/04:
Carol,
Here are some pics from the meeting / party on Saturday night. A good time was
had by all and we had lots
of ideas from everyone. The next meeting is scheduled for January at Lynn
(Walker) Brothers' house. The
cat on the sofa is Mac, who made sure all those attending behaved.
Oh, WOW!! Such fun you had!
As promised, I watched the clock and pretended I was with y'all. I have a
good imagination...
Thanks for sending these, Dave!!
From Cheryl Mays Howard ('66) of VA - 12/07/04:
Hi, Cheryl! Why, certainly!
Anyone? Anyone?
One more thing - the other
day we picked up another Famous Marine,
Chick Bennett of NJ. (No, no, this didn't prompt me
to make all those overdue corrections and massive additions to the page!
Well, technically, it did, but I haven't been able to do it
yet.. Keep the faith, gentlemen!) Anyway, he suggested that we
publish the email addresses of you Famous Military fellas directly
on the pages, so that they might act as reunion pages, enabling old friends to
find one another more readily. This is another one
of those ideas that is so obvious, it flew right over my head. As you
know, the truly obvious nearly always does. (Y'all stop that
snickering!!)
Chick's email address has already been posted. IF YOU WOULD LIKE YOURS PUBLISHED AS WELL, PLEASE GIVE ME AUTHORIZATION TO DO SO:

Thanks! And thanks, Chick, for the great idea!
Y'all take care of each other!
Love to all, Carol

I Have A Little Dreidle
I have a little dreidle It has a lovely body
I made it out of clay With legs so short and thin
And when it's dry and ready And when it gets all tired
Then dreidle I shall play It drops and then I win
Oh dreidle, dreidle, dreidle Oh dreidle, dreidle, dreidle
I made it out of clay I made it out of clay
Oh dreidle, dreidle, dreidle Oh dreidle, dreidle, dreidle
Then dreidle I shall play Then dreidle I shall play
My dreidle's always playful
It loves to dance and spin
A happy game of dreidle
Come play, now let's begin!
