Charlotte Mae Winstead

CALLAO - Charlotte Mae Winstead, 101, of Callao, Va., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004. She was a member of Trinity
United Methodist Church, Newport News, Va. Mrs. Winstead taught in the Newport News School System for many years. Survived
by sister, Mrs. Julia Gudell of Richmond, Va.; five nieces, Gaynor Vanlandingham of Callao, Va., Patricia Pittman of North Carolina,
Jennifer Vanlandingham of Lottsburg, Va., Jane Brooke of Richmond, Va., Frances G. Kusterer of Richmond, Va.; three nephews,
B. Franklin Winstead of Richmond, Va., Cabell Dudley of Lynchburg, Va., and Thomas W. Brooke of Providence Forge, Va. There
will be a graveside service held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, in Henderson United Methodist Church Cemetery, Callao. Memorial
donations may be made to the Henderson United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, Callao, VA 22435. Jones-Ash Funeral Home,
Rainswood, Va., will be handling the arrangements.

What a wonderful teacher. Miss Winstead was my first teacher in public school 50 some years ago at Magruder in Newport News, VA. I have never
forgotten her and will always be grateful for her "strict" direction and help in becoming a successful professional-she taught me the basics which carried
me through high school, college and in to the real world. She was the Teacher that everyone should have.

   Oh, my!  Miss Winstead was also my second grade teacher the following year.  I actually remember her more clearly from church,
as we were both members of Trinity Methodist.  I'm sorry to learn of her passing.  Thank you for sharing this with us, Jo Ann.

One more thing - the other day we picked up another Famous Marine, Chick Bennett of NJ.  (No, no, this didn't prompt me
to make all those overdue corrections and massive additions to the page!  Well, technically, it did, but I haven't been able to do it
yet..  Keep the faith, gentlemen!)  Anyway, he suggested that we publish the email addresses of you Famous Military fellas directly
on the pages, so that they might act as reunion pages, enabling old friends to find one another more readily.  This is another one
of those ideas that is so obvious, it flew right over my head.  As you know, the truly obvious nearly always does.  (Y'all stop that
snickering!!)
