Dr. Eugene Goodman
NEWPORT NEWS - Dr. Eugene
Goodman, 78, died Friday, June 1, 2007. He was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Wilson,
N.C., to Abraham and Anna Goodman. He served as an optometric officer in the
U.S. Army. He was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State College of Optometry. He
opened his own optometry practice in Phoebus and was in practice over 50 years.
He also had an office in Newport News as part of Riverside Hampton Roads Eye
Associates. He was president of Tidewater Optometric Society and of the Virginia
Academy of Optometry. He was a member of Rodef Sholom Temple and of Monitor
Lodge #197 A.F.&A.M. Dr. Goodman retired in 2001. He was preceded in death by
his sister, Phyllis Kemack and her husband, Daniel. Survivors include his
beloved wife, Evelyn Sharf Goodman, to whom he was married for 56 years and they
worked together for 50 of those years; his daughter, Terry Goodman Cobb and her
husband, George; his son and business partner for 20 years, Dr. Andrew Goodman
and his wife, Martha; two grandsons, Noel Goodman and his wife, Eva, and Jeffrey
Hardin and his fiancée, Emily Boyer; great-grandson, Ethan; his brother, Stanley
Goodman and his wife, Lena; brothers-in-law, Jerry Sharf and his wife, Norma,
and Brent Sharf and his wife, Laurel; and sister-in-law, Pattie Cramer. A
funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Rodef Sholom Temple by Rabbi
Gilah Dror followed by burial in Rosenbaum Memorial Park. Memorial donations may
take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon
Blvd., Suite A-102, Newport News, VA 23606, or the Rodef Sholom Temple, 318
Whealton Road, Hampton, VA 23666. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements. |
