WILLIAM H. BARRETT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Boatswain's Mate
William Hilliard Barrett, 42, died Sunday, Oct. 28, in Jacksonville.

A native of Wilson, N.C., Mr.
Barrett was a resident of Goose Creek, S.C. and lived in the Tidewater area most of his life.

Mr.
Barrett was formerly employed by Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop 72, before being transferred to Charleston Naval Shipyard where he was employed when called to active duty. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam.

During his military service, Mr.
Barrett received the Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars.

Survivors include his wife, Annette G.
Barrett of Goose Creek, S.C.; his mother, Ella Mae Barrett
of Newport News, Va.; and two sisters, Mary Griffith of Hampton, Va. and Ginny Gray of Carrollton, Va.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News, Va., by Dr. Ken Barnes. Burial with military honors will be in Veterans Memorial Gardens, Hampton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Navy Relief, Hampton Roads Auxiliary, 7920 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk 23505.

Linda Condron Mercer, 42, died Friday, March 29, in Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Mrs.
Mercer retired in 1989 after 18 years from Chessie-Newport News Credit Union, where she was an assistant manager and member of the Credit Union Committee.

She was a native of Lompoc, Calif., who had been a Peninsula resident since 1960. She was a graduate of Southeastern Regional Credit Union School at the University of Georgia, Athens, and a 1967 graduate of Newport News High School.

Mrs.
Mercer was a member of Bethel Temple Assembly of God, Hampton, and an inactive member of Parkview Church of God, Newport News.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny R.
Mercer; two daughters, Angela K. Mercer, at home, and Andrea M. Howard of Hampton; a son, John R. Mercer Jr. of Newport News; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Condron of Newport News; three sisters, Judy Manspile of Hampton, Amy Alley of Yorktown, and Mary Munoz Tollinchi of El Paso, Texas; a brother, Paul H. Condron Jr. of Williamsburg; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Bethel Temple Assembly of God by the Rev. Dan Livingston. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Building Fund of Bethel Temple Assembly of God, 1705 Todds Lane, Hampton 23666.

HAMPTON

Thomas Wayne Dalton, 50, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998. Born in Pittsylvania, he had been a lifelong Peninsula resident and graduated from Newport News High School in 1967. A former Newport News Police Officer, he had served as a guard at Newport News Shipyard for the past 26 years.

Mr.
Dalton is survived by his sons, Michael W. Dalton and Donald R. Dalton, both of Hampton; his parents, J.B. and Lizzie Dalton of Newport News; two sisters, Patty Nicholson and Wanda Wilson, both of Newport News; one grandson, Andrew Dalton
; and his longtime friend and companion, Sheilah Sterne.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home by the Rev. Samuel E. Hyde with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kypriandes was formerly employed as a professor by Northwestern College, Athens, Greece.

Kypriandes of Newport News; a sister, Mary J. Milliman of Parkersboro, W.Va.; two brothers, Christ P. Kypriandes of Newport News and Paul Kypriandes of Tucson, Ariz.

Prayer service at 7 tonight at Weymouth Funeral Home, followed by visitation until 8:30 p.m.

Funeral at 10 a.m. Friday at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. Peter Makris. Burial in Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.

Memorials to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church Library in memory of Gregory Makris Scholarship Fund; or the United Way.

JEAN E. TAYLOR

Jean Elizabeth Taylor, 51, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at St. Francis Nursing Center.

A lifelong Peninsula resident, she was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a former member of Parkview United Methodist Church. She was a member of Amaranth Faith Court No.12, where she had been a past Matron. She was also a 1967 graduate of Newport News High School and a former member of Virginia Choral Society.

She was preceded in death by her father, Guy E. Taylor.

Survivors include her mother, Velma S. Taylor of Grafton; and brother, E. Kent Taylor and his wife, Deana, of Alexandria.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church by the Revs. F. Chancellor Hamilton and Michelle Edmonds.

Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Peninsula Chapter, P.O. Box 120016, Newport News, VA 23612-0016.
