slow at developing film...
Eleanor sent me these images taken on 11/17/03 of my #6 son, Dale,

for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Carlsbad,
CA.

From Sandi Bateman Chestnut ('65) of NN, VA:
Dale's daughter, Trudy and
husband, Kevin, had their first child and our 2nd grandson,
Ryder Austin Mock, yesterday in Sarasota, FL.
He was 5 weeks early, weighed 5 lbs., 7 oz. and is 19" long.
Since he's a "preemie", the doctors are monitoring him closely to make sure
everything's okay.
When I get pictures, I'll be sure and forward them.
AH!!! Wonderful news! Congratulations to you all!

October 8, 2003
From Susie Overton Jones ('63) of NN, VA:
The response from the class of 1963 to have this re-union as soon as we could
has been great,
and we are all hoping for good weather.
We have had a couple of cancellation due to previous unchangeable commitments
from only three classmates,
and now there are a few that will be able to attend the reunion now scheduled
for Oct 17th-19th at The Radisson Hotel, Hampton.
The new attendees are: Janice Clark Palmer and her husband Jim, Richard
Honeycutt and his wife Millie.
There is still time for NNHS Alumni to attend our Friday night kick-off.
7:00 PM Radisson Hotel, Hampton, Rooms 206 & 208, $30.00 per person.
The ones unable to attend are: Lola Babb Hallman and Jim Hallman, Mary Lou
Hinson Moore,
Carol Smith Saunders and Bob Saunders, and possibly, Mary Beth Sawyer Humes &
Don Humes.
Carol, thank you sooooooo very much for all you do for the web site, and the
kind words of encouragement to classmates.
You're welcome, Susie - and thanks for the updates!

From Pam Smith Arnold - formerly Pam Smith Tomczyk ('65) of IL and VA:
"I am taking advantage of
Carol's wonderful work in compiling a huge copy-to list to send out several
pieces of news.
Sorry to bother those of you who don't know me or Dave.
First, Dave and I are fairly
decisive people who don't take long to make decisions and don't look back.
So ... for reasons mostly associated with my children, we decided to go ahead
and get married. And we did on August 30th.
I am now Pam Arnold - and most happy to have a name that can be pronounced and
spelled -
there are several other reasons that I am happy too :>)
We still plan on having a larger
gathering which we are now calling a marriage celebration.
Bobby Yevak will still officiate (which Dave and I are thrilled about), my older
son has asked to be Dave's best man
and my daughter will by my matron of honor.
We want it to be outside, and it will be in the Peninsula area.
And I would love to have any of you who would like to come and be happy with us
to attend.
So - we can have a party and all see each other again!
Dave and I will be letting you know more but I am looking at the end of June
2004 right now.
Today is my last official day at
Lucent,
but no one knows that as my VP has asked me to stay on for 2 1/2 months while he
replaces me.
Long story, but I went to him with a deal which he accepted, and I feel like I
was really in the catbird seat wit this.
It's a great thing! So, my e-mail address will be changing: it is
I hope you are all having days
that are as happy as mine have become.
And I hope that you will save a day in June to come celebrate with us.
Pam Arnold (formerly - but never again - Tomczyk)"
WOW! Congratulations! What fabulous news!!!

From Sandi Bateman Chestnut ('65) of NN, VA:
I'm happy to report that our grandson has finally been born, only 4 days late!
After 16 hours of intense labor, and eventual c-section, my daughter Kimberly
and her husband Jeremy, had a son, Jarrett Mason Easley, on Sept. 10, 2003.
He weighed 8 lbs., 4 oz., and is 22" long.
Kimberly's husband, Jeremy is 6'5", so I guess Jarrett will be a
good basketball player someday!!
They've had a little setback, as the baby has jaundice, so they haven't come
home yet.
Hopefully, tomorrow. I'll be in NC for a couple of weeks helping her out.
Kimberly's dad is Richie Allen, Class of '66.
Will send pictures later, probably not until I get back home to VA.
Thanks, Sandi! And congratulations!

and his brother Thomas' blessing outfit (bought by Aunt Sue).
Just wanted to share

From Tom Oxner ('65) of AR:
I have endured the curse of being a
gearhead most of my life.
I certainly was at NNHS.
Throughout graduate school, I managed to repress these urges, but ultimately,
I had to come out of the closet and admit that I really am a gearhead.
For the past few years, I have been autocrossing various Porsche 911s.
A photo of my current 72 911 is at
http://www.neokla-
scca.org/SoloII/EventPictures/Sean_Nov02/pb103466.shtml
The sanctioning body in which I autocross
(autocrossing is an event where a cones are used to define a course in a parking
lot or airport)
is the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).
They allow kids to autocross in go-carts
(with a number of restrictions for safety reasons) as young as 8 years of age.
When my son Luke turned 8, we bought him a go-cart so he could go
I am very proud of Luke.
He has improved tremendously as a driver in the past year and one half.
He was quite excited to win the Governor's Cup AND be presented the trophy by
the Lt. Governor.

"I wanted to
let you know - as I know you send out
mails to a broad populous - that Dave (Arnold) and I
have decided, for a number of reasons, to get married in 2004.
We are planning an outdoor wedding (maybe even at NN Park!)
because we want everyone who wants to to be able to come.
Afterwards we would like to have a big celebration.
Trust me, it won't be anything really formal -
just people getting together to be happy.
In the meantime, Dave and I are relishing our engagement.
I have to say it is so much fun to be so in love at this age -
especially with a man like Dave.
Life just keeps getting better.
I think you feel the same way as life advances -
and I wish the same sentiment for all our classmates and friends.
Part of the increasing joy has come with 'finding' so many people again -
especially some that have become very special to me."
Thanks for the
update, Pam!
The year 2004 has a
nice ring to it to me!
We're excited for you and looking forward to being there with you.
I couldn't agree with you more about the joy of finding so many old
friends all over again.
