To Mickie's family, we send our love and sympathies. It is so hard to let go of those we love. I am so thankful that I was able to see Mickie last Thursday one last time. I cherish memories of NNHS and Mickie is a part of that--always.

HAMPTON - Mickie Jane (Settles) Cook, 57, was taken home to the Lord on Thursday, March 3, 2005, after a short illness.
Born in Herrin, Ill., Mickie had been a Peninsula resident most of her life. She was a 1966 graduate of Newport News High
School and attended the University of Chicago. Mickie took great pride in her job where she served as the Regional Director
for the Office of Refugee and Immigration Services. During her time with the refugees, she re-settled hundreds of families from
war-torn countries from around the globe. She will be greatly missed. A beloved wife, mother, daughter and grandmother, she
leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Robert P. Cook; children, Michael R. Ramsey of Newport News, Benjamin G.
Hanna of Atlanta, Ga., Amy Milanese of Athens, Ga., Sara Elizabeth Cook of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Erin Ray of Defuniack
Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Katie and Brooke Milanese, Jacob and Hanna Ray and Michael J. and Samantha M. Ramsey;
parents, Betty and George Ramsey of Hampton; and brothers, Kenneth Settles of Iraq and Johnnie Ramsey of Hampton. A
service to celebrate Mickie's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 7, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald
Monk officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the
funeral home. Friends are encouraged to visit www.mem.com to share tributes or words of comfort. Expressions of sympathy
may take the form of contributions to the Office of Refugee and Immigration Services, 1615 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA 23661.
